“Both me and my husband have trouble allowing the children to take risks like climbing – these sessions have not only allowed them to do this but it has increased my confidence to let them take risks outside of the woods” Parent, Friday Play and Learning

Regular interactions in nature have been proven to support learning in these areas:

We hope to see you around this autumn 🙂

Celebrating the arrival of Summer

With Summer just around the corner we have been making the most of the warm, sunny days and the energy that comes with it! Our woodland explorers have certainly not been short of creative ideas and play over the last few weeks! We celebrated the arrival of Summer with our Half Term Holiday Club and our new Woodland Play and Learning programmes started again this week.

Summer is a great time of year to encourage deeper learning through child initiated play. Children naturally want to learn and our sessions help to support their eagerness to understand the world around them through play and allow children to develop confidence, self-regulation, social skills and other emotional intelligences.

We have some places available on our Monday and Friday (Shipley) and Wednesday (Keighley) Woodland Play and Learning programmes BOOK NOW

We are busy planning our Summer Woodland Holiday Play Scheme which takes place most Tuesdays during the school holidays. If you are staying around this Summer and want to try something different with the kids this is the perfect family friendly day out. For more information and to book check our our upcoming events page.

There is no such thing as bad weather….

It’s all about the weather here at Out in the Aire – we have had some fun days out in all weathers this month. As well as building resilience out in the cold weather, the children have been learning about the different seasons, improving their motor skills and building physical strength and having lots of fun through play!

Don’t forget to come and see us at our Easter Art and Craft Drop In event at Bracken Hall Countryside Centre in Baildon on Saturday 7th April from 12-4pm. No need to book – just pay at the door.

We love these fun ideas to try on our days out –

Spring is in the Aire!

February has been very cold and this was a challenge for our woodland adventurers (and their parents!) but it was a great way for the children to experience different seasons, build resilience and improve their gross motors skills through playing in the boggy and icy woodland terrain.

Spring is around the corner and we even saw some daffodils today which is promising!

Here are our favourite moments this month –

Families are getting Out in the Aire this Winter!

Play and Learning

Our Play and Learning sessions have been proving very popular with families all around the Aire Valley who are getting Out in the Aire this winter! Here are some of our favourite moments in January…

5 reasons to get out this winter

  1. It’s a learning experience – winter provides a perfect opportunity for children to explore and learn by jumping in muddy puddles, playing in the snow and seeing their environment differently to other seasons.
  2. Motor skills and overall health is improved – because it’s harder to walk on icy ground or along muddy paths this is good for practicing balance and improving muscle strength. Getting outside also helps to reduces childhood illnesses.
  3. It’s good for their immune system – warm, stuffy environments bread germs. Playing outdoors in the fresh air means coming in contact with less germs and more space to run around means less close contact with others.
  4. It boosts vitamin D levels – we all know that without it we feel tired and run down. Vitamin D makes us feel happy!
  5. Prevents cabin fever – get the kids wrapped up and head outdoors and you will notice a difference in their mood straight away. Parents will feel better too, promise!

Free taster sessions for nurseries

We are currently offering a free taster session for your nursery, pre-school and childminder settings who would like to hold outdoor learning sessions but do not have the right resources or skills to do so. If you feel you do not have the space at your setting to be able to have us come to you, we can discuss the options to visit woodland near you. Get in touch to find out more.

Our new volunteer

We welcome our new volunteer Nawal. Starting with us on Mondays at the beginning of 2018, Nawal recently completed her DoE Award and was really excited when she found out she could volunteer in a Forest School setting to broaden her experience and skills. We are really excited to have her on board!

If you are interested in volunteering with us please get in touch with Viky on 07535686374.
